STIMULATE: WUN Enterprise International Student Forum

WUN Sydney STIMULATE logo

The Worldwide Universities Network is running STIMULATE, hosted by the University of Sydney. STIMULATE is an international student enterprise forum, and leads 20 students from 5 international universities through an intensive business learning program, while they explore a real business issue.

As well as benefiting the students and their respective institutions, the research produced will form a report, which may influence the project sector in Australia.

For more information on the event, the project, and those participating, please see the refurbished Enterprise at York blog.

Regional Enterprise Awards

The University of York was ably represented at the Yorkshire Universities Regional Enterprise Awards by Waverun, an exciting business concept associated with real time advertising and Exelat Ltd, an already trading CETLE tenant company. Waverun, Joe Pearce and James Hambleton will be starting their business in the summer of 2008 with some support from the Student Proof of Concept fund. Matt Knight of Exelat is looking to move from the CETLE on graduation into new business premises on Clifton Moor near York. We wish both of them every success in the future.

The Business

Inter-University Enterprise Competition was a roaring success, photos can be found at www.york.ac.uk/enterprise/club

The Pitch Competition

The Pitch is a new type of business competition. You pitch your idea in a 1-minute video. You don't need to know anything about business - all you need is an idea! It could be a new product, a service or a way of helping people. You submit the video (it's really easy, and you can use our PCs if you don't have a webcam), then the best ones are chosen by a panel of judges. After that comes the fun part - everyone votes for the winner, who gets £100. And if you choose the winner, you could win £10

Good Bye to Hugh

Hugh Fidgen has left the University of York to wander the earth for a year. Hugh's excellent work for the CETLE and the wider University is very much appreciated and we all wish him the best for his future plans. It is telling that as Hugh was always behind the camera at events there are no decent pictures of him to accompany this post. Send us a good one from China Hugh.
