- The University of York has a long history of encouraging students and staff to be enterprising in both thought and actions. From 2001 to 2006 York, along with Sheffield and Leeds formed the White Rose Centre for Enterprise, which existed solely to embed enterprise learning material into existing modules across the science and technology subjects at York, and encourage student participation in entrepreneurial activity. The WRCE was a great success, helping students across many degrees learn the skills and mindset of an entrepreneur, along with the knowledge specifically related to their degree. All good things must come to an end though, and so it was with the WRCE in 2006. Not content to slip backwards though York, Leeds and Sheffield put in a new bid for funding to the government to establish a Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning Enterprise (CETLE). The CETLE was highly ambitious and would build on the WRCE but take it much much further...
